Hope you like this little story.
Dida dida, dida dida, dida dida, dida dum
All day long I'll swing around and mine
If I was a happy clothes line
I wouldn't have to work hard
Didda didda, didda didda, dida dida, dida dum
All day long I'll swing around and mine
If I were a clothes line"
"Hi, my names Clothes-line
Forest Clothes-line
My friends call me Forest"
This is my story.
Once upon a time there was this huge building where the
Clothes-line family lived. It was a happy place and one day
my mamma and papa fell in love and got married.
They say it was a beautiful wedding and when papa
placed that gold clothes-peg on mamma's finger everybody
danced and spun around in joy.
Not Long after I was born.
Mamma and Papa called me Forest.
It was fun living in Clothes Ville and one day a lady bought me and
took me home with her.
She had a lovely new house, though not many neighbors; as it was
a new area, but she was a really nice person.
Quickly I was up and working and every morning things like
Towels, Sheets, Socks, Shirts, Pants and all sorts of things would be
pegged on me to dry.
I loved my job and it was fun spinning around in the wind all the time, though I must admit I got a bit giddy at first but soon got the hang of it.
One day she planted a small tree in a pot and his name was Frank.
Frank and I became good pals and we would talk to each other
every day, and as Frank got bigger they planted him down the back
of the yard, so he could grow even bigger and stronger.
Frank soon became a lovely big, green tree and every spring beautiful yellow flowers would blossom off his arms.
Later on we had Loo, Mowa and Bubba join us and we all laughed the day away. It was so much fun.
Bubba was a big wooden fence and he was my best friend also.
"Hi Forest!"
"Hi Bubba!"
"Hey Forest, did you know that there are:
Wooden Fences
Picket Fences
Wire Fences
Concrete Fences
Pine Fences
Hardwood Fences
Tin Fences
Steel Fences
Short Fences
Tall Fences?"
"Bubba knew all there was to know about fences".
"He was real smart"
We had a little baby boy running around and playing in the back yard not long after we moved in.
We had to call him Lieutenant as he said;
"One day I am going off to war and be in the army, so you have to call me lieutenant".
He was a kind person and I watched him grow up riding on
his tricycle, then his Billy cart, then a big red bike as he got bigger.
The lieutenant used to also play lots of cricket in the back yard with his friends and Bubba was the wicket keeper to stop the ball going over the fence.
But sometimes the ball would go over the fence and the kids would climb over Bubba to get it back.
Bubba like that, as he said it tickled him so much it made him laugh.
I saw lots and lots of different things pegged on me to dry over the years.
We had long dresses, short dresses; I think they called them mini skirts.
We had work pants, jeans, flares, track suit pants, footy shorts, bathers and more.
There was underpants, blue panties, pink panties, some big, some small, broad shorts, all sorts.
We had big bras, little bras, maternity bras it just went on and on.
I liked the surprises every day with different clothes they gave me to dry.
As the years went on, the Lieutenant did join the army; and he did go off to war; and he did become a lieutenant, and he did get shot; but he is ok now; and last I heard he had been made a Captain on a shrimp boat somewhere, catching thousands of shrimp.
It's been quiet a bit lately, Frank is starting to lose his leaves and his arms are falling to the ground and Bubba doesn't say very much as some of his planks are splitting and coming off.
Then, one day there was a lot of commotion next door and I couldn't wait to see the next day over Bubbas head what was going on.
It was another bright and shinny, new clothes-line.
She was the most beautiful thing in the world I had ever seen and her name was Jenny.
I was a bit shy at first and when our eyes crossed I would quickly spin around the other way because I was embarrassed, but this soon passed and me and Jenny got to be the best of best friends.
Every day we would wave and dance with each other until it was dark.
Then one day, Jenny was waving and waving a real lot at me and I couldn't understand why, then a very small white feather came gently floating towards me and landed on my heart.
It was from Jenny.
As the tears rolled down my face, I whispered "I love you Jenny"
And the band played:
"Sweet home Alabama"
'Where the skies are so blue"
"Sweet home Alabama"
"Lord I'm coming home to you"
