As I drove past a field of new winter wheat I saw a hawk standing in the center clutching prey. The moment was arresting


Eternal Cycle

Green winter wheat
A hawk holding prey
The mouse dead
The hawk alive
the wheat from seed to leaf
all as it should be

Some of my own most arresting moments were when my eyes, breath and heart were held in the talons of a hawk. One escapes, but not entirely. I (and Jeffers) know exactly how you felt.
