To someone who passed away far too young

Dance with Fire

She left to seek something in the dark
We tried to follow, but we couldn't pass the mark

When she returned with a strange kind of shining light
she had a smile, saying that everything was all right

("candle that burns in both ends
burns twice as bright
but only half as long")

With assurance she asserted that nothing was found
Only the little boy could see to whom she was bound

An unknown fear grew within
as he saw a sign of the kiss
It said nothing of bliss:
"Who is next-of-kin?"

You approached the fire
without any fears at all

Your desire wanted to burn with it
Maybe even stronger than that?

Games
Patterns
unpredictable like the flames
Rules that only you knew

Your dance
So tempting
So frightening

But everything will cast a shadow
So did even you my friend

And the shadow fell upon those
who loved you
whom you didn't see anymore

But nobody saw you that night
when you burned yourself out

("A candle with three ends?")
