Simply Summer (Six Haiku and a Tanka)

Framed by a white cloud

Crows over the field sketching

A charcoal drawing

Shadows of flowers

Written on the old stone wall

Morning sun's poem

A dove's white feather

Fluttering on a rose thorn

Lifts in flight again

The sun’s last embers

Flickering in the clouds like

Rice-paper lanterns

Full moon falling west

An oak tree spreading its limbs

Ready to catch it

Where lake fog flows in

Two beacons blink on and off

A yellow cat’s eyes

The last geese lifting

And calling over the lake

Dark clouds take them in

The air and water and I

Listening to the silence

The feather haiku did it for me.
How I long for flight, again....
The haiku suite is thematically consistent and progressive.

loved them all, but I have to admit I have a weakness for a well written tanka - its so hard to pull off the subtle shift in subject that the form requires, and yet you did it effortlessly.

Amazing.

I'm with Jim. The cool quiet of these vignettes is very refreshing.

Simply beautiful, I tried to choose a favourite, but could not. I found this very restful and calm.

I wish I could lose myself within this beautiful setting, painted with words. Excellent writing, my friend. I enjoyed this immensely.

This is manna. My eyes are weary of heat and dust, my thoughts are drained by hours slow to pass, these are blessedly cool and refreshing.
