Thoughts On Flights

I hold a small
Simple thing

A wood screw
One of hundreds
from the box
To be used without thought
To fashion something
Much more grand

Archimedes
Would be pleased
To know how
Fundamental
His concept was
To the benefit
Of us all.

From spiral staircase
To the lowly screw
From pump to prop
From fan to foil
He is the father of them all

I really enjoyed this poem. The directness of the writing works very well with its subject.

From fastening to flight . . . it is a rare thing to see in a simple object all that became possible because of it. Most of us don't have that vision, and perhaps that is why there are poets.
