This sonnet was inspired by a poem called 'The Chilterns' by Rupert Brooke, one from the archives
By M.A.Meddings
The loving heart is so vulnerable
To the beauty of all it imbibes
It is so equally sustainable
As a matter of fact it enjoys
But it dies at the alter of her disdain
And it withers on her indifference
There is no antidote for the pain
No matter on her sweet deference
But time is the healer and ages the key
And years from now I will find
A deeper sweeter love than thee
Then leave all my heartaches behind
For I loved as you will never see
A gentle gift from the lips of me
