I don't consider this piece poetry. My apologies if readers find this misplaced here. It is rant, pure and simple; brought on by ruminating over current events.

RANT

Not long ago one's social value was
Denominated by ethics philosophy and theology
Sadly ominously the majority now consider that
Coinage to be image through ownership of things
no longer are you valued for your contribution
But what you have acquired
Even that is befouled by knockoffs
Image is now the measure of worth
Lying and cheating is the accepted expressway to its acquisition
Working for something is considered the exercise and provence
Of the naive and unsofisticated
When integrity dignity duty and honor
No longer become life's currency
Civilisation fails
The anarchy of the warlord triumphs
Do not wonder why violence is rampant
It is incarnate in the random killing
Over brand name athletic shoes
And fashion purses

Well said, Joe. Rant away. In my view, the main problem is this: we used to believe that we only could advance together; now we climb over each other to go ahead alone.
