The Evening Star

Accompanied by the frog's singing chorus,
as the sun sets,
a glistening light appears in the sky.
It is the Evening Star.

Hardly visible at first,
as some light from the day remains,
it hovers in its patience and peacefulness
until the velvet night's deep blueness
allows its full light and beauty to be seen.

And there it stands alone, seemingly,
until universal night sky
brings into illumination
all of its brother and sister stars
that have been there all along,
just waiting for the deepening of night
to bring their presence forward
so that their light can also be seen.

There is a star in the heavens
for everyone
—that is everyone—
it is simply a matter of time
and deepening
for each light to be born
and seen
—and the chorus of frogs welcome their homecoming also.

And so it is.

There are nights here when cloud cover obscures all the stars but one, this one, and I've learned to be thankful for one star, feeling centered by its presence, realizing others are looking into the one light too and we are not alone.
