The Immovable Mountain

The immovable mountain
standing still,
standing strong,
rooted deeply into the earth
and anchored in the light.

In the evening
the stars
circle and crown its peak,
casting their reflections on mountain's purple luminous surface—
that emanates from the light within.

Mountain pays no attention
to the transient realities of this world,
for it knows that it will remain,
even when all else is silenced
and has passed from time and space.

Its friends are the wild daisies,
nestle before its feet,
and the deer
who roam the landscape
that is shaded by its presence.

These spirits of nature
will remain
forever by its side—
that has sheltered and befriended them
throughout their life, in form.

The eagle soars far above its peak,
and carriers news of the distant shore,
of its brethren, the ancients,
who have stood as mountainous beings
existing beyond time.

Such souls are rooted,
interconnected,
through the soul of the earth—
that holds the record
of their immovable forms.

In this age of frantic moving about and travel, it's comforting to know that there are things that remain stable (or at least change so imperceptibly that we don't notice).

Strong imagery and sound philosophy.

I like mountains too, and you've described well their power and enduring presence . . . and got me to thinking of how we respond to and enter into different places. A mountain, for me, becomes a fixed point of reference, a verticality holding me in one place, saying "I'm here and no where else," demanding all my attention. Here, in the middle of America, prairie and plains and rivers, the horizon seems endless, the view almost limitless, saying "you can go anywhere from here." No doubt, at different times, we need both perspectives.
