There is a manicured jungle park/arborium along the Avenida Paulista In Sao Paulo.

Night walk

There is a soft almost indigo light
that pervades the garden
Casting oddly velvet shadows
From trees and plants on
The moss framed cobble stones
That meander round corners
In sweeping bends
To accommodate the ferns
And hosta

Moisture pervades and adds
the scent of composting generations
Wetting the cobbles
Dripping from leaves

Ancient trees canopy and
Old damp stone walls
Protect this oasis from the
Roaring traffic just meters away

There is no sound here save
my muted footsteps
An oasis of guarded silence
In a riotously loud city

Common wisdom suggests
Not to walk here at night
For the yin to my peaceful yang
Lie in wait

I choose to be here knowing that
Peace will drive the other away

I really enjoyed your descriptive thoughts I could almost smell the wet moss on dank cold walls and cobbles, gardens at night can be creepy places causing the imagination to run riot at the best of times though I would probably venture only into my own during the hours of darkness~Graham.

Simply stunning images and mood. And "riotously loud" certainly describes the Sao Paulo I was in briefly several times. I remember Avenida Paulista but I didn't have the time (or truthfully the courage) to walk and explore it. There are little oases like this in so many unexpected places but so rarely do we bother to look for them. And if they are in an old section of town they are timeless . . . one could go back to them years later and they would not have changed.
