Not great poetry but a good vignette

Good old dogs are like your good old friends, special to you alone.

Jake's Revenge

The time had finally come
Dusty disheveled matted
White stained and mud gray
Gloriously uncaring
Jake is sentenced to the spa

The mistress deemed
The Holidays would not
Tolerate such an uncouth
Socially unacceptable
Specimen.

Always eager for a ride
He bounded into the car
Little knowing the trauma
yet to come

The vet has women who
Specialize in making
Go dogs into Show dogs
Jake's sense of foreboding
spiked at the clinic door

After three hours a white
Puff bull emerged head
Down tail low eyes averted
complete with gayly
Colored bandana

The mistress squealed
At the transformation
Showering hugs kisses
Loving comments upon
Dejected Jake.

I saw him sadly walk
Through the door to
Lie in his corner with a
Huge sigh.... Sad at
his scentless state

The mistress insisted
He sit with her by the fire
That evening to continue
Her loving ministrations
Showered on her newly
Civilized show dog.

Jake with stoic stolid
Tolerance accepted
This unusual behavior
(She was never his confident)

With a look of utter
disdain He turned
While she forced
Another cuddle and
Gloriously.... Farted

As he walked away
I swear he laughed

I'm still laughing as I write this, so pitch-perfect it must be true.
Had it been my dog revenge would have been much messier. I miss her, even the messes.
