A Riderless Horse by M.A.Meddings

A rider less Horse

By M.A.Meddings

I found a rider less horse
O'er the fields of Acheron
His reins were loose
His halter broke
And his fighting spirit gone

Then in awe of his magnificence
I spoke words of gentleness
He gradually fell
before my eye
and laid his head to rest

Then with trembling heart he told the part
He had played just hours before
As the battle raged
The fight was waged
To win a maiden fair

But the finale of the story was
An ode to break your heart
Her love was not
One single jot
His knight was not a part

No battle sword no hefty mace
Could have felled the Paladin
Like the heartache he
Began to see
When her love was not for him

And so his knight gave up the fight
And fell before the source
Of his disdained love
That never was
And left this rider less horse

This, my good man , is a song.
Brings out the Irish maiden in me.
Precious. Precious.

Oh, my, your words, the flow, the rhyme, the meter all coming together to create such a portrait of the tragedy of unrequited love. I love the romance in the telling of knights and maidens and battles waged by the "rider less horse."

A sad story!
And I dropped in to say:
"Happy birthday Mike!"
There is a famous couplet in Urdu:
"May you live thousand years; may
every year have fifty thousand days!"
(((Warm birthday hugs)))
Love, xxx, Zoya
