I wrote this maybe 4 years ago. Now I look back and am kinda surprised at the imagery I used.
Through the abandonned streets
Cold, hungry, without a cause
Bruises, cuts, raw paws
What life is this?
What life did he miss?
The kitten appears from behind a wall
Tired and grim, she stumbles and falls
The puppy runs over and picks her up
The kitten tries to run, but then she stops
They look into eachother's eyes, and each heart melts
The same pain they saw is what they felt.

so different yet so the same
The puppy silently creepsThrough the abandonned streets
Cold, hungry, without a cause
Bruises, cuts, raw paws
What life is this?
What life did he miss?
The kitten appears from behind a wall
Tired and grim, she stumbles and falls
The puppy runs over and picks her up
The kitten tries to run, but then she stops
They look into eachother's eyes, and each heart melts
The same pain they saw is what they felt.
