On certain days...Feelings have a way of coming gushing forth like memories...

I Need You Today

A pink tiny ball
Of flesh,
Soft.
Crying hungrily,
I panic,
Offer my oozing
Breast-
You stop.
Sighs of satisfaction-
Mine and yours-
I watch you tenderly
As you suckle
My baby,
My finger in your grip-
Perfect ten,
Tiny pink toes
I admire,
Wonderingly...

Years have passed.

Faltering first steps-
You fall,
I rush, pick you up,
Hug you lovingly...

"Ma-ma!"
you lips utter-
blood rushes to my temples
heart misses a beat!
Strange feeling of elation
Grips me suddenly...
Even today,
When I think back,
Same feeling engulfs me.

Today you are a big girl,
Thousands of miles away-
London never seemed so far
as it seems today
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
Soni,
"May you live a thousand years,
In each year, fifty thousand days!"
Love, take care, Mama
PS
Today, you might not need me
I Need You Today!

I got so emotional the first time I read this,
so I had to return with a more stabile heart to write a comment. This is more than a lovely poem. This is a tribute to motherhood and.. yes, those years that pass so quickly but never really pass at all! Soni is lucky daughter, and her mother; a talented wonderful woman who honores the bay with her glowing presence. Thank you Zoya.
A happy-sobbing hug ¤ Lourdes

zoya, the sweetest oozes from this writing as the sweet milk from your breast flowed for your baby girl. Those are the most precious times in my life, the nursing of my babies. What a wonderful blessing given to mothers. Nothing that can compare to the elation, the total fulfillment that comes with nuturing your baby at your breast. How time flies, but we shall never forget the special overall feelings of suckling our little ones. At least that is the way it was and is for me. Seems that you feel the same. Happy Birthday to your baby girl all grown up. Kathy

India, Sweden or wherever else in the world - how alike we all are, even in the emotions and memories that come upon us each time one of our children has his/her birthday!
And, as always, you can express it all so well!
Congratulations to both mother and daughter on this day, hugs!

Inked.
Zoya, Zoya...once again, your words are leaving me breathless here. You've capture the perfect essence of wondering motherhood, loving motherhood, happy motherhood, and needing motherhood...

The last stanza is gripping. The last lines are perfect.
