Sweet Revenge

My sumac
Rescued from a garden
A neighbour would have killed
As a seedling
Now waves its mint feathers
In nonchalance
from the corner
Where nothing ever
Grew
Preparing for its
Autunm show
In crimson glory
Parading as a showgirl
While the neighbour
Watches

A lovely poem! I especially liked your word choice to describe the plant as it achieves its sweet revenge - "nonchalant" is perfect! I never would have thought to attach such an attitude to a plant, and I'm a bit jealous of your creativity. ;) Well done!

This is so good, I had to look up to see what a sumac was - I am a hit and miss gardener but I like the sense of satisfaction in this, you achieved, it flourishes and the neighbour missed out

This is excellent, Joe. It's well written, and I like the suggestion of Puritanism in it. Lurid, wanton plant!

I've always had a special fondness for what a lot of people call 'invasive' plants or more commonly weeds--like dandelions. To me there are few things more beautiful than a lawn full of blossoming dandelions--little suns all over the lawn. I like to think of them as pervasive, not invasive. They're survivors. They inspire me, as sumac has inspired you to write this delightful poem.

A perfect vignette, and it flows down the page beautifully. It didn't make me laugh, but nod with understanding. I have a fondness for sumac, and my neighbor . . . arghhh. Keel-hauling would be too good for him.

I trust it's not the poisonous variety, which abounds here.
There are always opportunities to "rescue" beautiful things, and how rarely anyone bothers.
