Never Have We Met
Never have we met
In the flesh,
Nor ever shall--
Or so we guess.
No, never have we met,
Save in a flood of posts
In which, to our surprise,
So much pours out.
Yet let us not demean
These words on a screen
Without which our two hearts
Had remained forever apart;
And remaining thus apart,
Had never grown a part--
Not even the smallest part--
Of each the other.
So let us never say,
Whatever the future bring,
Whatever it is we have
Didn't mean a thing.
No, let us never say
Come what may,
"It didn't mean a thing";
It cannot be so mean a thing!
But way leads on to way;
And if one day we chance to say,
"It didn't mean a thing," I pray
We will not really mean it.
Never have we met
In the flesh,
Nor ever shall--
Or so we guess...
