For Leonard Cohen 15th September 2013
after his performance at the O2, London.
Delicate, frail flower
Of song and poetry,
You stood before us
And told us,
It was your last.
You bared your soul.
We listened
In disbelief
And then belief,
As we saw
The tightness of your
Knuckles,
Bent towards the
Microphone.
Your head bowed
In devotion
To all the gods
And to the audience.
You worshipped us
With your music,
Offering your prayers
To your devoted followers.
You stood before us
And told us,
It was your last.
Hallelujah.
