My wife and I can't shake the idea that Ikey's child-rearing notions were always worth careful consideration...

Uncle Ikey's Last Words #37

yer kids shouldnt git
evrything they want
yer kids should git
evrything they need

by age fifteen er so
one thing they need is a job

goofin off all summer long
aint any good fer anyone

Goofin' off could have different definitions.
Depends if i'm the mechanic, the musician or the pseudo-hippy
;-)

I used to love "goofin off all summer long," and I believe that it did me good.

Completely agree with this :) The working legal age where I live is 16, so I've been supporting my eldest son in his job hunt this summer... fingers crossed he'll be getting a job soon as I believe it'd be the experience he needs to see and get a better understanding of how to get on in our society. Young ones' confidence and sense of being a contributing citizen are very important. Uncle Ikey, you are a very wise individual with much to offer to a lot of people!

Uncle Ikey, how did you get so wise?

Do you think you felt the same way when you were a teenager?

I wanted a lot that I didn't get, and I also didn't get a lot that I needed, and I did have to work for my money, except I couldn't use it for what I wanted but had to use it for whatever was needed, so that wasn't any fun.
