A POET ON A JOURNEY TOWARDS IMMORTALITY

Potent Element

I am a genius of my generation
A wizard
A poet
A prophet

The next potent element ...
The potent salt of the earth
The calabash in the forest
The diamond in the jungle
The elephant of Africa

Do tigers run after preys in vain?
Does water wipe away the spots on a leopard skin?
Alas! The leopard is in the arena

I am the vulture that must feed on carcass
I am the potent element in the magic pot
I am the lion in the jungle

What is Ajanaku's empty calabash doing in my hands?
Why must I carry the earthen pot across the river?
On magic broomstick we must fly tonight
To a place where poets commune with gods

This poem is so full of life and metaphors to make it powerful and so beautiful and mystical. I enjoyed this.
