our poems

At seminar we bring poems that we've found that interest us, that we want to discuss, and we bring some poems that we wrote.

I said I would post some of our poems. These are randomly choosen, but, perhaps representative. None of us would like to be pegged to one poem.

Colin's poem:

"from, to"

here, there

morning

walking from, to

screen door, lassie

chickens, sow, calf, cow, pony, horse

broken gate, oats, corn

bins, silo

truck, truck, tractor, truck

rusty bicycle

mailbox, school bus, bus driver, friends

not friends, school, teacher

roommate

hall, beer bottles overflowing the bin

bathroom, friends

not friends, shaving, naked, not naked

pissing, not pissing, etc., not etc.

pants, shirt, shoes, sidewalk, street

food, coffee!

campus, class, teacher

here, there

morning

walking from, to

life

Antoinette's poem:

"Nathaniel"

We rose from bed together.

We chanted every morning.

We greeted the sun.

We gave thanks for our food.

He went away, one morning.

He took something of me with him.

He left something of him behind.

He left something beyond compare.

Hare krsna hare krsna

Krsna krsna hare hare

Hara rama hare rama

Rama rama hare hare

We rose from bed together.

He rose from us.

Marcy's poem:

"Mother's Tale"

My mother spoke of respect, demanded it

As her mother had demanded it

As her mother had demanded it

And so I am the progeny of respect, as are you

The men implanted them

As your father implanted me

We walked head bowed

With tiny steps, with tiny feet

Behind, always behind

Never seeing the sky or stars

They put us where and how they wanted us

And used us as they would

What could we do

We talked and giggled among ourselves

Made crude jokes at our husbands' expense

That was all we could do

The men built the walls and raised the roofs

That protected us, and kept us within

One day we rose up and said enough

And our men crumbled like so much sand

We understood that what we had, they wanted

More than what we wanted from them

my poem:

"fact"

I talk too much.
