A grandfather's memory of a son

Kilimanjaro

I Watched him play outside today
Dressed in mix matched winter clothes
Hooded scarfed and booted toes
He stood atop a high snowdrift
Arms upraised in a champions pose

Eyes bright and cheeks aflame
His face a glow in ecstasy
As he surveyed the scene below
From his lofty perch his Kilimanjaro

He beckoned me to climb and see
To share the sight from his lofty prize
I laughed delightedly answering no
My days of climbing were long ago

My mind recalled another boy
In much the very same surround
Who cheered his summit in windswept snow
In winters past so long ago

I stood and watched as he deftly spun
And slid to land with innocent grace
And run away with boundless joy
As my memory stayed with the other boy

Åsa Andersson
And now you left me here with a girl from long ago.
Such a vivid description of cold and winter and the amazing joy of standing atop a mountain of snow.
Thank you!

One thing we should never do is forget about the kid we used to be and learn from him/her whenever we can.

Great poem. Thanks for posting.
