sweep up

 

 

in trying to say what i mean

 

i have left words scattered everywhere

 

sweep them up 

 

descriptive adjectives, useless

 

pleading adverbs, without avail

 

subjunctive verbs which express a wish have gained no favor

 

articles, conjunctions, prepositions, so much bric-a-brac

 

capitals and full stops, mere paint on the lily

 

none of it helps my case

 

it comes down to this

 

love me

 

and even that is as useless as a kite on a still day

 

for it isn’t up to me, is it

one more thing. you are so right about all the useless words when what we all want is to be loved and, like you say, that is not really up to us anyway. all we can do is love, but there are guarantees that we will be loved back, as all our poems put together show.
