une visite de l'après-midi d'été à l'église en Provence

French white lace
Finely done hand work
In the old style
Drapes her shoulder
Over a silk embroidered
Dress of azure blue
To cover her white hair
Flowing free in the sun and wind
As she enters the old shadowed walls
The pervasive scent
Of lavender
To light a candle

I can't add much to what the others have said. This is a wonderful, sharply drawn vignette.

A wonderful piece. I could smell the lavender and see her in the dress :)

Reminds me of childhood and the ritual, which wasn't a ritual as such - we all had shawls given to us at confirmation, hand made lace or crochet - I still have mine, not worn, just in tissue in an old wardrobe

What a beautiful and evocative picture Joe, such poignant sensibility to capture a vision in a place and a moment that is also timeless . . . each line is a delicate brushstroke, a Manet portrait perhaps. A sense of enduring faith and religiosity that hasn't changed in a thousand years.

The image so delicately described to form a portrait in the mind.
This is beautiful!

This is a beautiful portrait and the reader cannot help but see the old, dark shadowed walls of the chapel and inhale the wondrous aromas:)
