the family of man

~

adorable children

born of loving mothers

and fathers, most of whom care,

and grandparents

and siblings, then—friends and neighbors,

communities, villages, towns, cities,

we are the family of man,

yet, so sadly dysfunctional, bickering, fighting, warring,

wreaking havoc, playing for power,

befouling our nest, yet, again,

so few of us fall into

that evil category, so many of us

simply want to get along,

to live our lives in peace and love.

it doesn't work that way, yet . . . it does

fall within our ability

to tidy the corner we live in, to do the best we can,

and least this sound trite, and it does,

it is the best we can do, and doing it costs us nothing.

You are so right. It is the best we can do. Many people become great but cannot do this. Family is complicated when it does not really need to be. If we each tended our own little garden the world be much more equitable and pleasing.

These are nice thoughts, but I think of us as nothing but bags of DNA desperately trying to replicate. To say that we are living beings, as opposed to pointless chemical processes, is to excessively flatter us.

Beautifully said. One planet, one humanity, why can't it be?
A very good portrayal of the state of our humanity. Hope we evolve ... or something. :)
