The dinner hour at one of many urban restaurants in the Monserrat section of town

Another winter day ends in Buenos Aries

Damp and chilled the street contracts
As dusk has slid in fluid tango steps to
Oil slicked night on Avenida de Mayo
Local beef and potatoes in steaming
Windows with heavy Malbec

Aproned waiters surreptitiously sipping
Mate with supercilious glances watch
Sodden walkers hunched against a wet
Woolen fog while homeless men in shadows
Sleep with their dogs and dream of both

Brilliant. You have conveyed so much in such brief lines. It puts us right there. Sight, sound and smell :)

This poem is a painting, only with words instead of brush strokes. I can see it so clearly.

This is great, Joe. It has so much atmosphere. It is easy to picture myself there. I especially liked

dusk has slid in liquid tango steps to
Oil slicked night on Avenida de Mayo

Magnificent!

Wow ... I have to say you have captured the pure and true essence of a very exotic city. You had me there while I was reading. Visual, texture, and flavor well captured.

You've taken me back twenty years, though I was there too occupied with a business disaster to even begin to see and absorb as you have. Obviously I missed a great deal.

i love the surreal & cinematic nature of this, i love everything about it. it has an ease to that comes from (i am guessing) knowing your subject intimately.
