A hawk on a fence post as I drive by

Blackhawk

Preen and tease
The mat black pinions
Poised to power you to heights
Undreamed of yet attainable
Such thoughts as alien to you
As failure

They are made for success. Their actions like breathing out and in to us. And so elegant. I love birds.

It's a rare day I don't see a hawk, though I have realized I may have to go farther now to do so, the loss of farms and fields and prey habitat no doubt sending the hawks farther too. Many years ago I came to love hawks without ever having seen one but knowing them from the poems of Robinson Jeffers. His "Hurt Hawks" still chokes me up all these years later.

hawks are as you say, until crows and smaller birds engage them in dogfights. then the hawk rethinks his invulnerability.

which is an observation, not a criticism of your poem which, like your poem of argentina, comes from experience i'm guessing.
