At peace on an evening when questions come easily

Virtual Actual Possible

A table lamp and framed print are
reflected in a scene of warm liquid
light through the window where
I sit looking contentedly at a
black velvet night devoid
of all save the scene's reflection
Will a passerby on seeing the
Lamp lit scene unreflected be
Moved to the same tranquility
Or is the actual world in need
Of the virtual to achieve the
This possible peace

Good question. We can have reality, virtual reality or envisioned reality. Then there is past reality and alternate history reality. Perhaps one day we will all consist of globs of matter with inlet lines feeding us our realities.

envy comes to mind, the passerby would, for at least a moment, envy the scene. it makes me think of tiny tim staring at what he can't have. perhaps it's my own envy.

Not just a peaceful scene but a peaceful spirit. So often these past years I come to one window or another, looking out and looking in, often finding long poems in what is seen without and haiku in what can only be surmised within. In a way perhaps that is one answer to your "is the actual world in need of the virtual," how we need both what is and what may be, and both are a reflection of "this possible peace."

An interesting thought, Joe. My guess is that the passerby, being in motion, attempting to get to somewhere he or she is not, can't be so tranquil as you.
