Page And Pause
He sees her everywhere he looksAnd turns away because
No one is there, maybe in books
Stare at the page and pause,
"Nothing is written in concrete," he recalls the words she wrote
"I care."
Something is stuck just repeat, he reflects and gazes faraway
There may be a novel idea in there somewhere, heavy, heavy sighs,
Only breathe them to escape the haunted landscape the rootless, ghostly trees
In cold, dreamy motion like her he sees
Them dance across those satin ember eyelids closed,
No one is there, maybe in books
He turns away because
He sees her everywhere he looks
Stare at this page, and pause . . .
