Why read this?

Why read this,
Whats so special about it,
What will hold my attention,
If anything,
Shall I read on,
Or give up now,
It needs to do something,
Now,
Like mention sex, or butterflies, or poverty and yes, love,
Poetry needs a hook, something to draw the reader in,
Personal things like love and sex,
Or arty-farty things like butterflies and love,
Not so much poverty, oh no,
Poverty is grey and uninspiring,
See, already you're thinking "shall I move on",
I have had enough of this,
Where is it leading,
Where is the hook,
What will make me remember this piece of poetry,
If it is poetry, thats in dispute,
What is here to inspire me,
Not poverty,
Bye

I suppose you need to make poverty tangible, not just something we view from the comfort of our million mile removed armchairs

I read this and found it inspiring. It has the hook alright. Personal things like love and sex or arty-farty things like butterflies and love need not be the ingredients of poetry every time. Poetry in dispute will dismantle the stereotypes and the longstanding traditions and thus create something beautiful in the midst of chaos.
