The £1 shop
Rows of cassettes, The Mike Sam Singers, Jake Thacheray,Pots of this, jars of that, buttons, coloured cotton and figurines,
Magazines from the 80s, The Beano, Topper and Dandy,
The £1 shop smelling of furniture polish, potpourri, old people and urine,
Stained wallpaper hiding dreadful paintings of naked ladies,
Post cards from yesteryear with steamed off stamp marks,
Porcelain dogs sit next to knitted cats,
Marbles, screws, nuts, wrist bands, badges and fluff balls,
And all in a tea caddy with a solder painted on the lid,
Walking sticks, rolls of bog paper and maps,
The pound shop next to McDonalds in the high street,
Once a coffee lounge, now a reflection of what will be,
What will be will be.
