WHEN THE POWER GO'S OFF! (WITH THANKS TO MARK HEATHCOTE)

The power is off - with no warning it went off!
the evening - pitch black! No moon no stars
to let any light in to me house - not a glimmer!

Time to engage with other minds! Minds that make use of the darkness!
but first things first!

Stagger around - bumping in every thing
my knees could find!
coffee table - dining table - dining chairs - armchairs - that can be harmful!
BOOK CASES - one a twirler kind! free standing - that kind of
attacks - me with out any warning!
me ingrowing toe tail - found stuff below knee level!
the air sounds of oaths and swearing - made by me! I confess to! Air is blue!
my legs - feet toes - black and blue - yellow - turning to purple! Lumps and bumps!
searching for candles - found them! I took a while - finding them!
now the need for lighters that work - if not matches - if any are to be found!
That is!

Candles found - a working lighter found!
something now needed to hold the flickering
candle! A saucer will do - do the job!

Dame! No power - means no can listen to the wireless!
no music - no sound of voices - talking!
no typing - as - P C - is desktop rather vintage!

Light bulb moment!
find my back to the bookcases!
time to spend me time reading!
the night flew past - in the darkness I were not alone
as I had - Henry James - Susan Hill - Steven King!
to keep me company!

There hasn't been a power failure here for a long time, but my access to the Internet is very spotty. When it goes out, I do what you do, head for the books.

I enjoyed reading this very much. Where I live it's a frequent situation, so flash lights and head lamps, candles and matches are always within easy reach, but I can appreciate being in the dark in a dark night. I remember once in a blackout finding myself completely disoriented and lost in my own small bathroom. Couldn't find the door! Darkness does strange things to our equilibrium. But, oh, those wonderful friends our books. How nice it is to spend time with them.

The darkness sometimes brings light to the mind of those who thrive in its illumination!

I love this. I enjoyed each bump, thump, a visual delight.
