chains

we all wear invisible chains
anchoring us to
bedrock:
the weight of centuries

some love the chains
they are stable
and they are safe
these people are sad
because their fear limits them

some hate the chains
and claw and thrash
for freedom
but they claw and thrash
their neighbors

some don't notice the chains
they run in circles
too busy moving
they are ahead of a line
they are at the end of it, too

some love the chains
they have a longer chain
and rejoice at others
whose chains are shorter

some hate the chains
but they hate more than the chains
the others attached
pathetic creatures

some see only the chains
others possess
and not their own

some work to free others
because:
to break the chains
of friends
of enemies
is to break the chains
of your own

Though this is knowledge, the way you say it, portray it, makes so much sense, it should be taught at schools, how you say it, makes perfect sense

And do break your own is to break others perhaps.

As I read I was dismayed by how many unsavoury scenarios there were! Well done
