One of the greatest sports stories of all time, by one of the greatest sports writers of all time, George Plimpton. I hope you can find this online:

The Curious Case of Sidd Finch
My homage to Sidd Finch:
He came. He went—a meteor,
tall and spare, idiosyncratic,
beyond the scope of . . . us.
He came. He showed that
the impossible was possible,
and he did so without words.
He came, he took off his shoe,
he picked up the ball,
and then . . . he threw it.
He came, and now he is gone.
It is April, the game is on.
Let us remember the man.
