I am a non believer of religion. Still, it saddens me to see that Xmas has replaced Christmas and its meaning. I don't know, but perhaps like so many who ask Christ for help in time of crisis, He might not remember them.

There is no X in Christmas.

The angels fold their wings at rest
And the star moves on through the sky
The manger lies deserted now
The Wise Kings have ended their quest

Shepherds now tend the flock once more
Joseph and Mary with child travel home
That first Christmas morn has come and gone
Who now shall the crowds adore?

The wrapping paper consigned to the bin
The excitement of Christmas subdued
Counting the cost of so much joy(?)
Overspent on our kith and kin

The birth of Santa in the salesmans mind
Hail to the Dollar, The only true king
The Xmas story is a commercial fraud
Only faith can leave it behind

Perhaps the saltire (crux decussata), is not quite the right fit to associate Christmas with. St. Andrew would have had his own reasons for his demise via an X in Roman style.

Thank you for remembering the Christ. This is a lovely poem.

I did find this out years ago about the X because I, too, was concerned about taking Christ out of Christmas:
It turns out, "Xmas" is not a non-religious version of "Christmas". The "X" is actually indicating the Greek letter "Chi", which is short for the Greek, meaning "Christ". So "Xmas" and "Christmas" are equivalent in every way except their lettering.

I hope this better helps you understand. I much prefer the Christ in the word Christmas as I am sure you do. However X does indicate Christ as a Greek letter. :)
