The Value of Foresight

Hubbell's plan was to be a chef

On Block Island, he told me this

After going ass over tea kettle

On his Honda 90, the both of us.

Viv studied Art History, now she

Is an administrator, the principal

Of a magnet school in Denver, Co.

I watched two crows mercilessly

Harry a Red-tailed hawk, no one

Gets away with anything, no one

Gets what they want, because it's

Linear, make a mistake or make

No mistake and in the end it's all

Dirty dishes, chalk-dust, feathers.

I'm not so sure about the linearity, but the poem is a gem, especially the last stanza.

It is the journey of trying to get where we want that seems to take us in the end. I know that never in my life could I have predicted what my life has been, but it's been a good journey! Having said that, making plans and having dreams are an important part of the journey, even if it doesn't take us there.
Love the poem.
