LONG A GO WHEN I WAS A KID!

Long before I were born
The railway ran a
Different route up till the 1920's
Ran all the way to the sea front
The railway banks remaind
Over the years we called
Banks number one through to four
Number one banks being Whitehall Road
The now the abandoned railway banks soon overgrown
Brambles, bushes trees took over - and over of course bye the by kids!
Simply The Banks!

From Ramsgate all the way past - through Westwood industrial estate
All the way to Margates goods yard
A long the third banks - were a deepish hole
Us called The Devils Piss Hole!

Years later I realized it were a bomb crater from World War Two!

Now back then when I were but a kid - fields all around
Long since built over!
The Banks handy for setting out raiding!
Back then we would raid the fields dig up spuds
Then build a fire - toss in our gatherer in spuds - in to the fire
When skins were crisp - with stick fish them out
Then enjoy them - with out butter or margarean
Or margarine! Oh the joy jacket potatoes - oh what a feast we kids had!
Then back home for tea!

Oh happy happy happy days when I were a kid!

Lovely childhood memories, things are sooo different now. Your final line rings true to me.
