MARY ELLIS (WHO PILOTED SPITFIERS DURING WORLD WAR TWO)!((INPORTANT CHANGES!))
Mary a woman of great courageFlew Spitfires - and Lancaster's
Among other warplanes during
World War Two - in total -
Over a thousand - warplanes!
Flew the first jets - Gloster Meteor!
Flew them from factories to airdromes
Men even more sexist back then- as you can imagine!
Soon learned - how wrong they were!
When Mary landed a Wellington Bomber - SINGLE-HANDEDLY!
The ground crew asked Mary:
Where's the the pilot, lady?
'' I'm the pilot! '' said Mary - more than a little put out!
The men - grinned - rather patronization her - a girl - pilot - what ever next!
On finding no man hiding with in the the Wellington!
They look at Mary - rather sheepishly!
Mary and her sisters pilots ferried all types of warplanes through out WW2!
One time Mary were flying - when out of eye she notest a strange plane!
It had German markens - it were a ME 109!
Mary were unable to fight - has woman ferrying - plains guns carried no ammo
NOT - allowed!
So Mary could do was to shoo away the German and his ME 109!
He were taken back in shock - seeing a WOMAN! Shooing him away!
The German - did as he were told - any duly flew away!
Mary - were a member of The Air Transport Auxiliary - who did there bit!
Mary - and her sisters - NO FAIRIES!
Sad to report - Mary recently died - aged 101 - we thank you Mary Ellis
We thank you and your sisters for all that you did during WORLD WAR TWO
