I know your face
I know your face so very well
It will be with me to the end
Skimming beneath the surface
of a reality without amends
Across the frozen wastelands
Of a soul with no defence
In a heart compressed by living
A life full of pretence
Like a bystander of the future
Breathing tainted air of the past
In a fitful sleep of unawareness
At the wrong end of the looking glass
In every scene played out by love
Across the mercurial sky above
Against the cliff face of every thought
Adrift in the wash
That drags my heart to shore
This is the way of things
Stars shimmer but never bring
A ray of light to lead the way
Towards the wishing of any day
I know your face so very well
It will be with me to the end.
