Two pals sat by the side of the bars
Giving thanks for the peace and quiet
In the stillness of the evening
When the afternoon had been such a riot

Said the Cheetah to his Tiger friend
I hate how they scream and shout
They stare at us - and we at them
Don't they know what it's all about?

An Ice -cream comes flying over my head
Some kid thinks that's fun to do
If for a moment I was just out there
I could give him more than a playful chew

I know what you mean, the tiger replied
If I were a poet I would tell it in rhyme
But no poem written could share my thoughts
On this happening time after time

They bring them here to learn things
About Nature and we animals too
From Kiwi's to Kookaburra's
It's no place for us, is a Zoo

I'm feeling quite inspired now
To be a great fighter for our cause
I would write a letter to the President
But that's hard when you've only got paws

Oh, I've remembered tomorrows your birthday, mate
There's a party? Thanks for letting us know
No doubt about it, your getting old
Your grey whiskers are beginning to show!

Like the ice rivers of the glaciers
We're sliding slowly downhill from here
The cream of cream we two once were
Just toothless kitty's now I fear

And the parents will bring their children again
With their Coffee Latte's and soda's to drink
And while they cause mayhem in their excitement
They would make such a tasty lunch, don't ya think.
