Moments . . . Ago
When we were kids, eons ago, there were always a few iconic toys and equipment in the hall closet, or yard, or neighborhood (midwestern version):
ice skates
bat, ball, mitts
football
sled
fishing pole & tackle box
Then I remembered:
stilts
tire swing
swings
teeter-totter
squirt guns
Then I thought of girl toys:
jacks
jump rope
roller skates w/ key
Then boy toys:
Cub Scout knife
caps & cap guns & rifles
bow & rubber-tipped arrows
Daisy B B gun (ten years old)
Tonka type trucks
Then:
chalk for drawing four square & hopscotch on the pavement
Later:
hula hoop
skateboard
frisbee
And, finally, the ubiquitous:
bicycle
Of course, equipment wasn't needed. A tree was for climbing, a stick for imagining, woods for exploring, time for spending. Throw in a puddle, and life was good.
