for ann

almuerzo en el parque

we meet ann   masked and window-shopping

at the mostly closed stores

it's sunday   she joins us for lunch

at the plaza cafe   that is to say   outside

the plaza cafe   we

take our order to the park

on the square    my piñon-nut salad

and guacamole

ann's norteña taco   marketa's

blue-corn enchilada   looking around the park

i imagine it is a picnic-

outing for the hole-in-the-wall gang

a park of masked hombres   sus esposas y sus niños

y niñas y el caballos en el hitchin' post

a blue-sky day at the park

children's laughter rising above our heads

like dust-devils in the heat

Thank you, Jim, I love it. It is such a lovely poem, I can barely hold back my tears, but they are from joy. You always know how to cheer me up. Thank you again for the wonderful poem you wrote about me. You are very special to me too, my dear friend, I love you, my brother.

That similarity between our era and the Old West also occurred to me. I wonder if a cowboy-style kerchief around the neck will become a fashion accessory after the virus has been subdued.

Also, first class final couplet.
