Mask

I’ve worn my mask each day
Washed my hands of many things.
Just a physical embodiment
Of the habits of a lifetime.

Now I put a mask on my mask
And hold my hands together
Just waiting for so many lives
To stop slipping away.

We’re all wearing double masks now it seems. The medical experts say it is more efficacious. However, I feel we wear one mask to protect ourselves and others and a second to protect our social and emotional selves from others. This pandemic has had tremendous collateral damage on the social, emotional and mental health of everyone.
