far from home

sunrise   this day   saturday

   saturn's day

nursery colors   complemented

by kiva's embered radiance

   a dusting of snow

on the front steps   light enough

to sweep with a broom

   clouds hovering

heavily   portend what   an interior day

books and music   daydreams

   wistfulness

nursery colors   pink and blue

how many such sunrises

   did odysseus see

~

what of penelope   days

   with needle

nights unraveling

faithful to the unfaithful

   who beat

his chest   shed tears

who chose to leave

   this day

has begun   snow swept

tea poured   fresh logs

   on the fire

who would leave such a place

and leave such a one

   alone

There's a sense of yearning and celebration in this one, which I simply adore. I like how you've juxtaposed the spatial descriptions with the story of Odysseus and Penelope. Nicely done!
