i see sparrows every day

they like to shelter in the prickly tangle of multi-flora rose

they like the shelter of cedar trees as well

sparrows are cautious

but in a way they are bold

dashing out from their safe shelters to find their seeds and berries

sparrows are quick and nimble

they are social and chatty

they are camouflaged well

yet have hints of festive colors which are lost to the casual observer

our sparrows live in meadows and woods

wild places

they do it well

sparrows bring life and movement to our winter scene

they are most welcome

and most appreciated

You are indeed lucky to find sparrows around you. These were my childhood buddies for those were the times when they would enter the apartments as well but not seen anymore around here. Beautiful ode to the sparrows.

We have a neighbour's cat who sits on a wall hungrily,
Watching the sparrows there was two squawking.
one sitting on our shed the other in our hedge,
when the cat saw me it scarpered as the sparrow
on my shed attacked it.
We love watching the birds as they come down to feed.
Regards Alan.

They are thankful for our 'bird balls' and seeds at the moment. Minus temperatures and snow, the poor little things have no other food source. A fine observational poem.

They are prolific here as well; suited so deftly to their environment. They are usually invisible. Your lovely poem will insure they are no longer so, at least for me. Well done Jim.
