Words To That Effect
You held her close you were within her hand
Almost complete as a figure of speech
She said something secret in a voice so soft
Was it the key to a spirit kingdom of light long hidden well away
Something sacred saved and who could say, for that special day
Or was it only, 'words to that effect'
All cities seem uncivilised now, two dimensional shadows
Of concrete, steel, glass, asphalt, smoky hallucinations
Digital webs, veils of nets, set to beguile and trap the senses
Perhaps no one sees because there is nothing there to see
Anymore, it's gone the way of ghosts, just hollow taunting haunts
Of what once was, some legendary stage show of history and art
Culture, accomplishments, the tawdry lie of human greatness
Such is immortality;
But wait, stop thoughts, no critical object now
Quaint motifs of shallow shouting seas, waves waving backwards to themselves
Swallowing everything
False values
Non Money
Loose change
Lose everything,
She said something secret in a voice so soft
Or was it only, 'words to that effect'
