j at 14, she steps out of the bath

stands before the mirror

comes to realize

that the child is a woman is a child

it is winter, sunlight

almost warm

through the window

this girl is between herself

recognizable, almost

as if she were in line with her past

and her future

for now she is a child-woman

a little scared

a little proud, a little cold

Reminds me of that song, Anthems of a 17 year old by Broken Social Scene. Good song.

Your poem is amazing too.

It's a moment that is destined to occur with girls more than boys I think. Your poem describes the event for J with great delicacy and clearly with love. The last line cleverly lightens the mood slightly... well it did for me. :)
