plain pain, framed even when winter departs too
a man lives opposite me
i see him every morning
i see him every night
he lay vacant in bed
naked and duvet-less
window wide open wanting the cold to help him feel anything other
i recognise that look
i recognise that weight
pain palpable
plain, mundane, eating away at his bare flesh
the cold brings me back
even if it is a second
a glimpse at the other life i know and love too
but it isn't for everyone
but it doesn't work for everyone
