This was my mother, strong willed and tenacious. She was a stay at home mom that was always “There”.

Being There

In The beginning, it's taken for granted
As we come home we dump our daily trials
Then off we go relieved of the burden
Free to pursue our daily tasks unencumbered
Free to play untroubled
Free to work unfearing
Free to care without hesitation
Free to just be us
As time goes by
The troubles are more complex
Expanding beyond our family core
Testing the patience yet demanding more
Expanding the capacity to accept the truth
Relying on the integrity of what's told
Knowing what is disclosed stays close to home
Realizing all need to have a trusted place
Like coming home
Like knowing all the troubles stop here
Like trusting our secrets with no fear
Like believing there is an answer when there is not
The price is paid with opinions and views
A parents domain that's old news
As parents ourselves, we see the value
Yet what seemed so clear now is not
It's not easy to hold the secrets inside
To have a place our children can confide
A place without fear of recrimination
In a time when the sensational is the news
Yet try we must
To persist with faith is all we have
There is no judgment day except inside
Let the need be the guide
There is a time and place
Where this simple virtue must hold true
When It is I have an image and a view
Of conversations past reborn anew.

Such a deep assessment of self I sense here, and an expose too. I feel this poem took quite a time to evolve: It reads that way. I excuse changed opinions and viewpoints with the understanding that everything changes, even from hour to hour. That is e v e r y t h i n g.
An inviting read. Thank you for sharing. Blessings and love, Allen
