A Sad Little Story

She said, "Don't let anybody see you as you're coming here."
Clearly, she held me in high esteem. We ate fairly well,
But always at her house, meals she had ordered. We never
Dined out. We never went anyplace. Okay; the mountains,
But not to the beach, or the mall, or the movies. Her mad
Urge to make sure that we weren't connected in anyone's mind
Made me angry and sad, and, at last, I announced I was
Planning to go. I was taken back when she cried, "You can't
Leave me," but I'd had enough, and I did.
