Lesson 19

Hog Butcher for the World,
Self-Appointed Protector,
Warden of War worth only to you, or
As they say:
THE GREATEST COUNTRY IN THE WORLD

I loved you
From the first moment I knew you
Knew of you, I imagined in you paradise!
I thought Manifest Destiny meant me as well.

I entered you
Wide eyed
A seeker of secrets
I thought I was privy to
I was wrong
I was wrong

And back home
They tell me:

You are where lives can and will be changed and I say that’s true
But only if money changes hands or else, or else,
The short end of the stick is stuck up somewhere
The sun don’t shine, and they call me a hypocrite for this.

I’ve seen so many young bodies enter your factories
Only to be grinded into sinews and bones
Yet they were a smile on their face because your promise
Is so easy to be infused into dumb Nepali brains.

I pity them I pity them I am one of them
I escaped
But how
In my weakest moments
I long
I long to go back to you.
